The girls room in coming together. I finished up the
crib sheet and crib skirt this last week. If I couldn't find a grey crib sheet, I knew for sure I wouldn't be finding a grey crib skirt. So, I made one with fabric that is in the
baby's quilt. This skirt is made to just touch the floor when the mattress is on the lowest setting.
I opted for a straight skirt that has just one pleat in the center of each panel. I'm not one for ruffles and fluff, so the simple lines of this skirt appealed to me.
I am including a pattern and instructions for making a crib skirt. Please feel free to print off a copy or share it with others. The numbers on the images below correspond with the instructions above.

Hope these are clear and easy to follow. Please leave a comment and picture if you make your own crib skirt or sheet. I'd love to see how it goes for you.
Thanks so much for posting this! I love that I was able to customize my fabric to the quilt that I made and I did not have to settle for something generic!
ReplyDeleteAmen to custom, one of a kind, not out of a catalogue or from Target.
DeleteMy sister asked me to make bedding for her baby-to-be and this is the perfect pattern. Thanks so much for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteNo problem! I have a crib sheet pattern as well, the link is in this post.
DeleteThis looks gorgeous and the instructions seem easy enough to follow for a beginner sewer like me. I don't want a full crib set and just wanted a bed skirt to add some color to the bed. This is the perfect project for my baby's room. thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I hope it works out well for you. I'm with you on not having a whole matchy-matchy bed set. It's a lot more fun to put together a couple fabrics that you just LOVE.
DeleteLove the simplicity. Can't wait to pass this project on to my sister. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Nice that you have a sis to sew for you. I need one of those :)
DeleteDo you think it would be too difficult to put different fabric in the inside of the pleat? I really like your pattern. Best one I've seen yet and I'm excited to try it! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat would be really cute! I think it would be simple enough, just piece in a strip of the fabric right in the middle of each side of the skirt. I would make it the exact size of the pleat and it should look fantastic. Be sure to post a picture on my facebook page of your completed project. I'd love to see it!
DeleteThanks for this cute yet simple crib skirt. I do have a question though, how big is the seam when you sew the skirt pieces to the base fabric piece. Is it the typical 5/8 inch seam? I am not there yet but looking ahead. thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteYes, that would be great. It would even be a smaller seem.
DeleteLove this pattern. Perfect for the Dr Suess quilt I made for my grandson. I purchased the book panel fabric and found it to be wide to use as a bumper but this pattern is exactly what I need to finish the crib set. Thanks;)
ReplyDeleteHello, I was just wondering how do I print the pattern out? Thank you,Amy
ReplyDeleteI d like to add 3 layers of ruffles, how much fabric should I buy? And how wide should the ruffles be?
ReplyDeleteWhat is a good price to charge for making these?
ReplyDeleteHow do you cut 4 strips at 16 inches wide. If the width of the fabric is only 45 inches wide...
ReplyDeleteYou are right! The math does not add up here! You would only be able to cut 2 16" wides strips from a 45" wide piece of fabric. 2 strips out of 2 yards means you only have 144" of total length!
DeleteThe pattern calls for 176" total length of 16" wide fabric!
I am using a light shade of yellow for this crib skirt but realized that following your instructions would create seams showing in the skirt pieces. Sewing the two 16 inch pieces together to make a long piece as instructed in number 3 would create additional seems. Is this just to save fabric? Is there another way to do this and avoid extra seems? Thanks for your help.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's just to save fabric. If you want to buy more fabric and cut the stripes the length of the fabric instead of the width that is fine. It kind of depends on the pattern of the fabric and which direction you want it to hang. I hope that helps.
DeleteSo cute. I love the bike on the wall too! Did you make it also or purchase it? If you purchased it would you give me the contact info? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this -- one of the easiest thing I've made in a long time. Thank you so much for sharing your pattern with all of us. My granddaughter who will be arriving next February will have a fabulous room!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! I consider myself a beginner and it turned out perfect and (only) took me a couple of hours.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately I cut all the pieces the measurements you gave and then by the time I hemmed the sides I didn't have enough material left for a 4" pleat. Very disappointed as I should have cut all the pieces a little wider than the measurements in the picture.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I realized thankfully before I started cutting pieces. I am inexperienced at sewing am I right in thinking the following?? If you cut the pieces exact as she has them here it will be too short. Each piece should measure at least 1/4' more all the way around in order for seam allowance. Right??
DeleteSame problem here. Cut all the fabric; didn't have enough for pleats.

ReplyDeleteGreat pattern! Just made this over the weekend and it looks AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteGreat Pattern and instructions,I'm a newbie at sewing, so I did struggle with the instructions but once I understood, I realized on perfect they were... did mine with a blanket and curtain pull backs... If done as instructed there is enough to pleat all sides... The other comments made me nervous, but realized they just didn't follow or understand the directions...
