Two years ago when I visited Maui, I went to this fantastic Hawaii Fabric Mart that was a warehouse of Hawaiian prints. I bought a variety of green and brown prints with the desire to make a souvenir quilt. This is how it turned out. I really enjoy having this. I purposefully made the quilt as random as possible by making 10 blocks that were all unique. My favorite fabrics have the turtles because we were lucky enough to snorkel with turtles quite a few times.
So, when we were so fortunate to get to visit Maui again this year, I told my kids that they could pick out fabric for their own Hawaiian quilts. Besides getting them a Maui T-Shirt each, this was their only souvenir. They were really excited and had so much fun picking out fabrics.
As you can see, there was a rainbow of tropical prints.
The turquoise, lime and coral fabrics are what my daughter picked out for her quilt. She has recently informed me that pink is no longer her only favorite color, turquoise is now a favorite as well. She wanted this quilt to be "not so pinky" as she put it.
And my son went for a manly quilt of black prints. I will share pictures of the quilts when they are done (and don't be expecting that anytime soon). I'm thinking one might be in stripes and of course a bit random because of the nature of the wild fabrics.
I love both the quilt you made and the colors Nal picked out. So fun!
